Oscars 2019 shortlist has Black Panther

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday announced the shortlists for nine Oscar categories. This is the first time the Academy has released all of its shortlists on the same day. Among those making the shortlist is the acclaimed Black Panther movie which made the shortlist in three categories; visual effects, makeup and hair styling.

Black Panther is the first film in the Marvel series to center on a superhero of color: African prince-turned-king T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), aka the Black Panther.

The 91st Annual Academy Awards ceremony will air live on ABC on Sunday, February 24.
